Emma Ironside MBACP, MSc, BSc (she/her)
Hi, I'm Emma, Founder of Roots & Horizons. I'm so pleased you've found me!
I am a Level 7 BACP registered psychotherapist, and practitioner psychologist, completing my Doctorate training in Counselling Psychology.
I offer individual and couples therapy to those finding life a bit difficult. To those who are struggling with their mental and emotional wellbeing, relationships, or sense of self-worth. Or those who simply want to understand themselves and their ways a bit better (we don't always need a reason to seek therapy).
Roots & Horizons Psychotherapy embodies the willingness to reflect deeply and explore the unknown (Roots), with the potential for self-discovery and future growth (Horizon).
I am an integrative psychotherapist, which means I am able to draw on a range of psychological approaches to support you in the best way possible. I am trained in Humanistic Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy.
I have worked within NHS, charity and private organisations, offering psychological therapy and relationships counselling, over the past 12 years.
I offer sessions online or in-person at my Berkshire practice at Moss End Garden Village, near Bracknell and Wokingham.
My therapy room offers a safe, confidential and cosy space to connect, explore, and grow together.
I offer a free 15 minutes telephone consultation to introduce myself and answer any initial questions you might have. It is your choice if you would then like to book an initial 50-minute session.
I specialise in relationships, boundaries, self-criticism and identity exploration. I also work with the following:
I like to work in a way that keeps you at the centre, therefore we will think about your goals for therapy, consider your preference over the type of therapy offered, and make a plan for how to get there.
If you wish to continue your therapy journey at Roots & Horizons following this initial session, I can offer short-term, long-term or open-ended sessions on a weekly basis*.
*bi-weekly or ad hoc sessions can be arranged if needed, based on availability.
I am passionate about creating an ethical, safe and non-judgemental space for clients to explore their psychological and emotional experiences, whoever they are, and whatever their needs. I welcome diversity and inclusivity with my practice.
I am proud to offer an LGBTQIA+ friendly and TGNC-affirming therapeutic space. Furthermore, having worked extensively with Neurodivergent clients, I appreciate the need for reasonable adjustments within my practice to help everyone feel comfortable and accommodated (e.g., session length/frequency).

If on a low-income, or you're a student, concessionary rates can be offered for ongoing sessions. Does not apply for initial session rates.
During our first session, I will ask you about your background and what may have brought you to therapy. We will think about your goals for therapy, consider your preferences over the type of therapy offered, and make a plan for how to get there. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine if we are a good fit. You can choose whether you would like to continue your therapy journey at Roots & Horizons after this point. The duration of therapy varies based on your individual need. Some clients may benefit from just a few sessions, while others may engage in longer-term therapy. We will regularly assess progress together, but ultimately this is your choice. You can end therapy whenever feels right for you.
I am an integrative psychotherapist, which means that I draw on a range of psychological approaches to support you in the best way possible. I am trained in Humanistic Person-Centred Therapy, Relational Psychodynamic, Compassion Focused Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. I don't expect you to know what these are, many people don't. Therapy is not about me 'doing' anything to you, rather it is a place for us to think together how the difficulties in your life impact you and others.
Therapy is an investment in your psychological growth and wellbeing. If you are facing emotional or relational difficulties, or seeking personal growth, therapy can be hugely beneficial. It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist, but inevitably some therapy sessions can feel upsetting, uncomfortable or emotional, particularly if discussing difficult topics. This is all part of the process and often serves as an important part of moving forward towards change and growth.
I offer a FREE 15-minute telephone consultation to introduce myself and answer any initial questions you might have. You can choose to book in for an initial session after this point, or you may want to skip the telephone consultation. To book an appointment, please contact me using the online form below, email me at emma@RootsandHorizons.org or contact me by telephone via my Psychology Today profile;

I look forward to hearing from you!
I understand that life can get in the way of scheduled appointments. Roots & Horizons adopts a 48 hour cancellation period. If you cancel with more than 48 hour's notice you will not be charged for the missed appointment. If you cancel less than 48 hours before the session, you will be charged the whole session fee. I will always offer to reschedule the session for another time that week if I/we have availability.
Clients are required to pay within 24 hours after each therapy session. An invoice will be sent following the session each week. If there is an issue with payments, we can discuss this together. Roots & Horizons may cancel future sessions if payments are overdue, until the full balance is paid.
Yes absolutely, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. There are certain exceptions, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, which we will discuss during our initial session.
Progress can be seen in various forms, such as improved mood, better coping strategies, healthier boundaries with others or a deeper understanding of yourself or your relationships. We will regularly review your goals and how you are finding therapy.
If you are interested in a free 15-minute telephone consultation, or you would like to book an initial session, please email me.
